Over the past week, I've noticed the abundant Facebook statuses commenting on the plethora of cookies made by one's family or eaten by posting-individual. Am I missing something here? What's up with Cookies and Christmas / the holidays? Can't you bake a ton of cookies on any given day and gorge on them afterward?
Whenever I'm inquisitive about something, anything, I immediately go to Google for the answer. So I tried to find out what's up with this cookie tradition (obsession?) but the results keep coming up with cookie swap ideas, recipes, and how to bake a cookie. I don't want to know how, I want to know why!!
Happy Holidays!!
Thanksgiving Break is over and I got nothing done. Why??
It frustrates me that I spent the entirety of my break stressing out about all the work I have to catch up on and get ahead of. It's our break for crying out loud! We don't even get an entire week off like most schools. Haven't I been sleep-deprived enough? Shouldn't I be able to sleep in without feeling guilty? To go online with the pure intent of wasting time surfing the web without having to eye the neighboring "Great Expectations" tab on Google Books waiting to be read? Or look at the stack of unopened textbooks sitting on the coffee table mocking me for having brought them and wasted luggage space?
Having french vanilla coffee with amaretto creamer with one of my best friends.
Starting a new play with the sounds of Lady Gaga and John Mayer in the background.
What a Happy Thursday.
Just got back from watching "Casablanca" for the first time. It's amazing how much the dialogue in this film is referenced in everyday conversation. It all makes sense now!
Unfortunately, my phone always struggles to get service in that particular movie theater. It died on me halfway into the movie so now, I'm stuck waiting for it to charge when I would really rather like to be in bed. As tempted as I am to put off doing laundry for another day, my overflowing laundry basket strongly advises against it, which means getting up at 7am!
This is what happens when you are late to a play that does not seat latecomers. Damn you, bus schedule! Yanllerline and I ended up walking around downtown Buffalo and taking pictures with some "landmarks." This is the empty fountain across from City Hall. Climbing atop the ledge of an empty fountain in flats is not an easy feat, folks. My friend fully took advantage of documenting my struggle. Poo.
"When all you wanted was to be wanted,
wish you could go back and tell yourself what you know now
...I realized some bigger dreams of mine."
I love big teacups! Maybe it's just a coincidence but ever notice there's always a small chip on one side of the cup? Spot Coffee at 10am with a good friend and good conversation should be mandated for all Fridays.
I went to Perks (the ice cream place downstairs in the dorm) to support Jon and his band at open mic. This night has led me to my current nightly affair with soft serve ice cream :X It was a great show. I was pleasantly surprised (I know, I suck. How could I have thought otherwise, right?). They gave out free cds. Obviously, I snagged myself one.
It was so nice out this past Thursday that Susan took the class outside to the CFA loop area. We laid out on the grass and listened to our peers read our plays. It was fantastic and how I used to imagine college to be before I actually started college. If only everyday could be like this!
So intense, emotional, raw.
Doesn't her energy draw you in??
How tonight's events unfolded leading up to Maria Taylor's concert:
- Pre-show, Pearly and I went to Mogador Falafels to get Grilled Kefta Kabob and Chicken Shawarma sandwich, respectively
- We went outside to eat at one of the two tables that shared a bench and one lone chair as the restaurant was small and had no indoor seating
- Within 10 minutes, it started pouring ... HARD; i was partially drenched before we retreated into the restaurant
- We waited out the rain for 30 minutes, enough time for the restaurant itself to get flooded.
- After 30 minutes, it was safe to speed walk over to the concert venue
- Déjà vu : going down to the stairs to the basement where the concert hall is to find the employees sweeping water accumulated from the leaking pipe overhead
- Five people, ourselves included, are waiting for doors to open. We've been waiting for about 15 minutes when all of a sudden, something gurgles up from the drain on the floor and before we knew it, blackish water is spewing up and onto the floor, spreading.
- It did not take us long to realize it is sewage water. The smell gave it away.
- We retreat upstairs. The other girls leave. We can't. We already bought our tickets online. No choice but to wait it out.
- Eventually, the basement is cleared. We make our way downstairs.
- There are benches on the side of the wall. We position ourselves on the second bench closest to the stage.
- A cute Belgium group, Soy un Caballo, singing French songs open to a room that probably had 20 people in it.
- Morgan Nagler goes on next. Maria and her sister sing backup for a few songs before watching from the audience ... a mere arm's length away from where I am sitting! I had to suppress the urge to tell her how much I loved her shoes.
- Maria takes the stage and it was so worth the downpour and floodings, and my one concert splurge of the summer. She sounds just as good as she does on record, if not better. I love the way she plugged Morgan, her sister Kate (who sang back up vocals for some songs), and the guitarist/drummer Todd. How often do you see anyone who is genuinely supportive of people, especially people in the same industry. Call me jaded but I'm not even getting that from most of the people I surround myself with =X
I don't remember the last time I went to a concert. It's been awhile... I really loved the intimacy of tonight's show. Also, I'm pretty sure Morgan was tipsy towards the end, playing the tambourine. It just added to the joviality of the night!
Had my first lobster roll today. It was enjoyably decent. Once I try legit lobster roll, I am going to void today's experience.
Liz and I went to see the Boomerang Theatre's production of Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors in Central Park. I kept mixing it up w. Epidamnus' The Menaechme, which I believe Shakespeare used the theme of. Really funny and well done! My first outdoor play... sitting on my towel on moist ground and dewy grass! Twelfth Night was outdoors but it's a grander production of an outdoor play.
After the play, we walked (yep, I made sure everything we did would be within walking distance because the fare hike went into effect today @#$#%) over to the 72nd kayak location and just made the sign-up cutoff. We rowed briefly before we noticed that we were the last ones out in the water and reluctantly made our way back to the pier. At one point, a wave of water came crashing into the kayak and today soaked the thighs and crotch area of my jeans. Fantastic. I'm sure I reeked of Hudson River for the rest of the day. We walked down the boardwalk (??) to Pier I where we used this trailer-park-looking bathroom and then grabbed lunch at the Pier Cafe (where I tried the lobster roll). Another first: dining by the river! After we ate, we walked onto the pier to await this dance thing that was to start soon (we sucked at learning the dance moves ... me moreso than her. I just couldn't comprehend the steps!) The view is just beautiful. You just can't help but take it all in; I'm embarrassed I hadn't ventured over to the Hudson Rive / Riverside Park area before!
All in all, a very productive day!
yay! i'm glad you are joining in on the fun! read more
